Typography

This is the 'work' I produced during our typography sessions. Didn't see any real point in tracing letters as we have computers to type in Baskerville and Univers and I didnt learn a thing but at least it was too strenuous for mind or body.

So we drew some letters using charcoal to give us a greater appreciation of different letter forms. I jolly well love the letter 'j' now... not. Then we traced the word railway in two different typefaces to help us get the letter spacing correct - but yet again we now have computers to do this for us.

The next task was actually quite a challenge. We had to write our name to portray a certain voice - below is my mum nagging me. We also had to write a noise made by any type of transport which was also pretty difficult.
Now I totally missed the point of our final task. Cutting out precisely 4x4 squares of newspapers and gluing them together? This is definately a keeper for my non existant type sketchbook.

Peter and the Wolf

Peter and the Wolf is a short animation about a boy called Peter and a wolf, who doesn't have a name. It totally relies on visulas for you to understand the story as there is no speech. Instead it uses various musical intruments for the animals voices and reactions which I really enjoyed. The music that accompanies this animation is crucial for its imaginative and creative story and is something that I will experiment with for my animation as I do not want to include speech either.

Major Project

RATIONALE:
For my final project I am going to make an animation. I want to adapt a short childrens story and turn it into a sort of childrens TV programme. I'll probably end up just using the stop motion technique as I have little to no knowledge of Flash or After Effects. I want it to evoke
the nostalgic feeling I get when watching the older kids programs like watch with mother and the clangers so it will appeal to children and grown ups alike. I really want to improve my skills in Final Cut and gain a better understanding of how stop motion works. I am also really keen to make my own characters and set from scratch as I want to be able to say I have created everything on my own.

My motivational text comes from a Winnie the Pooh book. Although I have already decided I do not want any dialogue in my animation this sentence really sums up the quirky, simple and cute nature of the animation I would like to produce.

"When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing that seemed very Thingish inside of you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it."

Belleville Rendevous

I've been watching this film a lot recently. If you haven't seen it - you need to watch it. It's the cutest, funniest, most heart-warming animation ever. It poops all over Disney and Studio Ghibli both of which I love, so it really is worth seeing. The dog in it makes me want to cry every time I see it just because it's so cute! I really like the way it's been drawn, all the characters have certain features emphasised to make them kind of look like animals and they even use animal sound effects instead of human noises. And it's also cool that you don't have to speak any French to understand the storyline as there is hardly any dialogue.

Artists Book Fair

The Book Fair was full of... well... books of course. But the prettiest, most imaginative books I've ever come across. All I want to do now is make books! A lot of them didnt even have writing or any message whatsoever-they were just really creative little pieces of art. Very overpriced though.

Italian Food is quite obviously the best

I'm totally obsessed with Italian food at the moment which isn't good when you're trying to diet but it's just too yummy to resist sometimes. My latest dishes are homemade pizza and vegetable lasagne. Both are so easy to make as I managed it just fine-lasagne is just like a savoury trifle and pizza base is only flour, water and yeast. Warning! Once your learn how to make pizza, you'll never stop-I'm on my third one already and it's only been a week!
